About: Our Women's Sewing Circle, Give a Goat Program, Women's Saving & Lending Program, Empowering Women Conferences, and Teenage Mother's Skilling, are just a few ways we empower women in desperate situations. Frequently these women lack education, have been widowed or abandoned by their husbands, and have children to care for. Giving to this fund allows us to partner with women in need and meet their needs in a way that restores their dignity and fills them with hope for the future!
-The women in our sewing circle not only meet together to fellowship and study the Bible together but they also gain incredible skills in tailoring, knitting sweaters, and making bedsheets & sanitary pads to provide an income for their families. Most of the women who enter the program are weary from the struggles of life and are surprised at the many ways God uses this group to encourage them in their walk with Him.
-Giving a goat is one way we empower women who are in desperate situations. We provide a goat and give follow-up to see that the goat is properly cared for. In return, the women return to us one of the two kids that the goat usually has in the first year. Not only does this provide some income for the women, but it also boosts their self-esteem to realize that they can care for an animal—something they had not previously had the opportunity to do. The cost of a goat is $75.
-As a result of children sitting idle at home for more than 2 years as schools were closed due to Covid-19 in Uganda, many young teenage girls in the communities now find themselves as mothers. DCM saw a need and met it by giving these girls an opportunity to continue their education by learning income-generating skills such as sewing & tailoring. Young mothers come to Divine Hope Church 2-3 x's/week to be mentored by Mummy Maria (pictured below) and learn how to sew, knit, and tailor various items. They're even knitting sweaters to be used as school uniforms for the children in our primary schools! Thank you for pouring into these young women with the love of Christ through your prayers and generosity! Together, we make a difference!
-Our Women's Savings Circle is a Microlending program that allows women to gain access to loans and provide for their families through small businesses, etc. Without this program, these women would find it extremely difficult to ever gain access to a loan...as interest rates in Uganda are exorbitantly high.
